Thinking to walk. Er, reverse that.

For as long as I can remember, it’s always been really helpful (nearly necessary) for me to walk around as I think. Actually, it would be more accurate that often I can only think if my feet are moving.

Not walking TO somewhere, necessarily, but just being able to walk, not think about where I am going, but to just go somewhere is so necessary for me to digest my thoughts.

I can’t just sit somewhere and think, I get too easily distracted by light bulbs that need to be changed, or something that needs to be cleaned, or the internet, or by that bug crawling on the wall. When I walk around, it seems to give me something to think about, just enough to keep me from getting distracted, but still leaving enough room for me to do a lot of thinking.

Now that it’s winter, aimless walking is a whole lot more enjoyable. In the better weather, people are always outside and stopping to talk to everyone I pass who are hanging out on their porch makes it difficult to get any thinking done. Not that I necessarily mind talking to folks (it makes my night, many times), sometimes you just don’t want to talk to people. Now that it’s winter, I don’t have to worry about that as much and I am really excited about that.
